Welfare & Accessibility
We want every guest to feel safe, supported and able to enjoy their evening with us. The ball may potentially become an overwhelming event for some people, so a range of welfare support will be available throughout the night.
Alongside quieter spaces across the College, guests will have access to a dedicated Welfare Room, roaming Sub-Deans, welfare resources and support from security, committee members and medical staff.
Welfare Spaces
The Hall
A warm, quiet space where guests can take a break from the event. There will be no loud music or flashing lights, and a range of quiet activities will be available.
Welfare Room (Old Law Library)
A supervised quiet space providing welfare resources and support throughout the evening. Ear plugs, drink covers, drink testing strips and other welfare supplies will be available here.
First Aid Room (Lecture Room A)
Staffed by paramedics and medical technicians throughout the night for any medical concerns or emergencies.
Accessibility
We are committed to making Arcadia as accessible as possible while making use of Magdalen College's historic grounds.
Most areas of the Ball are wheelchair accessible, although some routes may be more challenging due to cobbled surfaces, uneven ground and the historic nature of the site.
Please note that the Grove deer park is not fully accessible due to uneven terrain and tree roots.
If you require assistance during the event, please speak to a nearby member of security or a committee member.
Ask for Angela & Anti-Spiking Measures
Arcadia operates an Ask for Angela policy across the site. If you feel unsafe, uncomfortable or require discreet assistance, please speak to a member of staff, security or a Sub-Dean and ask for Angela.
Drink covers and drink testing strips will be available throughout the event, including at bars and in the Welfare Room.
To help keep yourself and others safe:
-
Do not leave drinks unattended
-
Avoid accepting drinks from people you do not know
-
Stay with friends and look out for one another
-
Drink water regularly throughout the evening
If you think you or a friend may have been spiked, contact security, a Sub-Dean or the medical team immediately.
Harassment & Behaviour Policy
Arcadia is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all guests and staff.
Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, unwanted sexual attention, abusive behaviour or persistent unwanted contact will not be tolerated.
Consent must always be freely given, informed and can be withdrawn at any time.
If you experience or witness behaviour that makes you uncomfortable, please speak to a Sub-Dean, member of security, committee member or visit the Welfare Room.
The Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove, any guest whose behaviour is considered unsafe, disruptive or detrimental to the enjoyment of others.
Medical Assistance
Paramedics and medical technicians will be available throughout the event in the First Aid Room (Lecture Room A).
If you require urgent medical assistance, please attend the First Aid Room or notify the nearest member of security immediately. Security, Sub-Deans and committee members can all help direct you to the appropriate support.
